These painted marks are continued interaction studies. Concurrently studying my interactions with myself, my interactions with you, and our collective interactions with the space.
These interactions illuminate relationships, and I find that my relationship to you is my relationship to your experiences. A physical exchange, a passing of DNA through handshakes, handholds, soft and caring touchings. Paint making visible the marks we make on each other. Illuminating.
Our overlapping membranes creating space to interact with each other's perceptions - sensory processing of situated environmental stimuli and all bonded associations. You and I step inside a shared openness. Memories are pulled to the surface of the skin and transferred through touch. Here, coexisting and connecting sensory modalities can bloom [1].
Your/my reciprocal accommodations and acknowledgments say, “I see you” and “I want to make this space safe for you too”. These are acts of caring. If looking is an act of choice, these marks are ways in which I situate myself in relation to you and ways that you situate yourself in relation to me [2]. The inherent reciprocal nature of vision is that soon after we see, we are aware that we can be seen. This asks the question, how much of what we see translates into what we know?
